My first time at a Microsoft store in Tampa (no longer there) was overwhelming and incredible.
It was a Friday afternoon, and they had an emergency because more than half of their monitors were completely out…
The store was made up of about 100.monitors going around the whole store (all working as one), and a 4×3 video wall at the rear ….
I arrived and the store was in a panic hey had already done a restart without success… I too was concerned as I’ve never been faced with such a situation…
This is when my many years of experience as a restaurant manager in NYC helped tremendously, “take a step back so you can take two steps forward”…
First, I calmed the store down; then I called my support personnel to get a good understanding of how the system is supposed to work. (In summary all the displayed worked in a quad configuration)
As such, I systemically shut down one quad at a time (each tv individually) until they were all down. After a reboot of the servers & processors, I turned on one quad at a time (in the sequence they were numbered).
It turns out it was nothing more than a communication problem after a lightning storm in the area that required a slow mythical restart.
The store manager was thrilled, and all the monitors were back up working perfectly. Moral to the Story “STAY CALM”!
